Moving Tips

Make your move easier with expert tips from High Mountain Moving.

Prepare for a Smooth Move

At High Mountain Moving, we charge by the hour, so being prepared when our team arrives can save you time and money. Here’s a comprehensive list of tips to streamline your moving day and ensure everything goes smoothly.

  • Pack Small Items Efficiently: Ensure all small items are securely packed into boxes or bins before we arrive. Loose items take longer to move individually, slowing down the process and increasing costs.

  • Empty Furniture Drawers: Remove all contents from dressers, desks, and cabinets, packing them separately. This reduces weight, prevents damage to items inside, and makes furniture easier and safer to carry.

  • Protect Glass Components: Detach glass panels from furniture (e.g., cabinet doors, table tops) and wrap them in bubble wrap or blankets. This prevents breakage and ensures safe transport.

  • Disassemble Bed Frames: Break down bed frames ahead of time and tape bedrails together at both ends with painter’s tape. This simplifies carrying and reduces setup time at your new location.

  • Clear Pathways: Remove obstacles like rugs, toys, or clutter from floors and walkways. Clear paths ensure our Moving Assistants can work efficiently and safely, minimizing delays.

  • Manage Pets and Kids: Keep pets and small children out of high-traffic areas during the move. This prevents interruptions, reduces stress, and keeps everyone safe while we work.

  • Pack TVs Properly: Use a dedicated TV box with padding for all televisions. This protects screens from cracks and scratches during transit—standard boxes often aren’t sufficient.

  • Label for Unloading: If we’re unloading, label boxes and items with their destination rooms (e.g., “Kitchen,” “Bedroom”). This speeds up placement and reduces confusion at your new home.

  • Use Moving Blankets: If we’re loading your truck, rent or buy moving blankets to wrap furniture and fragile items. This prevents scratches and dents, especially on long-distance moves.

  • Plan Parking Access: Reserve parking space for the moving truck near your home. Closer access cuts down on walking time, speeding up the loading and unloading process.
